Jessie Augustus Reid was born on 7 October 1878 at Pike County, Mississippi, United States; The age at last birthday shown on the 1930 US Federal Census for Beat 5, Walthall County, MS, for Augustus Ried (sic) was 52. This would place his birthdate in either 1877 or 1878. His place of birth was given as Mississippi.3,4 He was the son of James Reid and Roscena Abi Williams.2 Jessie Augustus Reid was born on 7 October 1879 at Pike County, Mississippi, United States.1,5 He married Dolly Olivia Greer, daughter of William R. Greer and Sarah Elizabeth Boyd, between 1902 and 1903 at Marion County, Mississippi, United States; The 1930 US Federal Census enumeration for the household of Augustus and Dollie Ried (sic) indicated that they were each 52 years old and had been 25 years old when they first married. This would place their date of marriage in either 1902 or 1903.1,6,7,4 Jessie Augustus Reid died at his home on a tenant farm in the Sartinville Community, Jayess, Walthall County, Mississippi, during the 1942 school year. He died of a heart attack suffered while he was working in the cotton fields with his wife of many years, Dolly. According to his grandson, Walter S. Jones, Jessie and Dolly were working in the fields when the school bus dropped him off that afternoon. Jessie told Dolly he wanted to go up to the house because his chest hurt. Jessie went in and lay down on his bed and Dolly started dinner. His grandson went outside and waited -- crying because he knew his grandfather would never leave the fields early unless something was terribly wrong. Soon he heard his grandmother shouting for him to run and get help because his grandfather was dying. The eight year old ran to the next farm to get help and the neighbor, Jab Harvey, told him to run down to Mr. Bracey's because he had a car. Meanwhile, the neighbor would go and see what he could do. When young Walter and Mr. Bracey arrived, it was too late, Jessie had passed away; Heart Attack.1,5,6 Jessie Augustus Reid was buried in 1942 at Enon Cemetery, Enon, Walthall County, Mississippi, United States.1,5
