Jesse Greer Jr. was born on 30 December 1788 at Washington or Sullivan County, Tennessee, United States.1 Jesse Greer's birthplace has also been given as Wilkes County, NC.2,3,4,5 He was the son of Jesse Greer and Judith Hampton.1 Jesse Greer Jr. married Nancy Puckett, daughter of Ephraim Puckett, on 15 July 1813 or 19 July 1813 at Barren County, Kentucky, United States; According to "Greer Family History Notes", the marriage of Jesse Greer, Jr., and "Polly" Puckett is recorded in the courthouse in Barren County, Kentucky.1,6,4,7 Jesse Greer Jr. married Ginna Blengsinger after 15 October 1822 at Pike County, Mississippi, United States.1,8 Jesse Greer Jr. married Elizabeth Davis, daughter of Joseph Davis and Tabitha (?), in 1844 at Pike County, Mississippi, United States.1,8 Jesse Greer Jr. died on 6 January 1867 at Ruth, Pike County, Mississippi, United States, at age 78.1,9,4,10 He was buried after 6 January 1867 at Ollie McComb's Old Place, Pike County, Mississippi, United States.11
William Johnson served as legal guardian for the children of Jesse Greer and Judith Hamilton Greer, from Jesse's death in 1788 until Jesse Greer's estate was settled in 1799.1 As of 30 December 1788, Jesse Greer Jr. was also known as Jesse Greer Sr..12 A Greer family historian (or perhaps a genealogist retained by an interested family member) visited the site of Jesse Greer's homestead in August 1957. According to the account listed in "Greer Family History Notes", nothing of the old home site remained except for the old sandstone rocks used in the foundation of the log house built by Jesse and a built-up pile of dirt and rock which may have been the foundation of the stick and dirt chimney. Several tall crepe myrtles around the home site were in bloom at the time.
About 100 yards south and west of the homestead site is the family cemetery where Jesse and other family members are buried. None of the graves are marked and, even as early as 1957, the barbed wire which once surrounded the site was practically torn down. The visitor recorded that a small cedar, surely now a large cedar if it is still there, stood nearby the small cemetery. According to "Greer Family History Notes", the cemetery was located "on the Fernwood property adjacent to the Jenkins place". The general vicinity of the old Greer place is listed as about three and a half miles south of Ruth, just inside the Pike County line and west of the road that runs (or ran) from Ruth to Felder's Campground.1 According to "Greer Family History Notes", a number of Greers from Wilkes County, North Carolina, migrated to the Barren and Warren County, Kentucky, area in the early 1800s. There was a William Mitchell and family living in Warren County in 1810, according to the US Census, however, there was no male listed in that family between the ages of 16 and 26, which would have been the proper age bracket for Jesse Greer, Jr. An Aquilla Greer was living in Warren County in 1810 and there were two males in the 16 to 26 age bracket in his household, one of whom may have been Jesse. It is supposed that as a teenager, Jesse Greer, Jr., probably lived with various relatives, some of whom moved to Pendleton County, SC, and perhaps were with the Pucketts when they moved to Warren County, Kentucky.1

Anderson Boyd was enumerated as a member of the William Boyd, Sr., household in the 1850 US Census for Pike County, Mississippi, on 7 Nov 1850. His position on the census indicates that he was the son of William Boyd, Sr., and Mary E. Boyd, however, "Greer Family History Notes" indicate that his father's name was Andrew Boyd. Further research into his parentage will need to be conducted before making a conclusion one way or the other. The census gives his age as 14, which would place his year of birth as 1836. His place of birth is shown as "Mississippi". The census indicates that he attended school within the year of enumeration.2

Andrew Boyd may be the same person as William Boyd Sr.. Anderson Boyd was enumerated as a member of the William Boyd, Sr., household on the 1850 US Census for Pike County, Mississippi. His position on the census indicates that he was the son of William Boyd, Sr., and Mary E. Boyd, however, "Greer Family History Notes" gives the name of Anderson Boyd's father as Andrew Boyd. This could indicate that either the name given in "Greer Family History Notes" was incorrect or that Andrew Boyd died prior to 1850 and Anderson Boyd was living with a relative other than his father. Further research will be required to clarify this relationship.2,1

Her surname has also been spelled Blingsenger, Bladesinger, Blengsenger and Bloodstringer -- verification might be found in immigration records for the port of New Orleans between 1820 and 1822. In all probability she arrived from the port of Hamburg in Germany.
There is a family tradition that she may have been Jewish, but this was probably based more on the sound of her name rather than fact, because another family tradition in the Amos Greer family says that her sons, unable to read the old German bible she brought with her from her family in Germany, tore the pages out and used them for gun wadding.
Ginna learned the weaving skill as a girl in Germany and was well-known for her weaving throughout the Pike County area. After the death of Jesse Greer's first wife, he married Ginna and she was the mother of ten of his nineteen children. Ginna Blengsinger also went by the name of Jennie Greer.1 As of after 15 October 1822,her married name was Ginna Greer.1

John Greer was born in 1714 at Virginia, American Colonies.1 He was the son of John Greer and Sarah Elliott.1 John Greer was born in 1736; I am including this "alternate birth date" for the sake of completeness. It is the date listed on the cited DAR application. However, IF John Greer and Nancy Lowe had 6 children between 1737 and 1746, it is unlikely that John Greer was born in 1736. Of course, the "Greer Family History Notes" are as likely to have been incorrect as the DAR application.2 He married Nancy Lowe.1,3,4 John Greer died before 1782 at Wilkes County, North Carolina, United States; The will of John Grierson was abstracted on page 321 of "Abstracts of Wills in North Carolina, 1760-1800) by Fred A. Olds. Year: 1782. Wife: Nancy. Daughters: Ann Mitchell and Sarah Demess. Sons: Aquilla Grier, John Grier, Benjamin Grier, John Grier, Jesse Grier. Grandchildren: Rachel Mitchell, Sarah Hargrave.1,3

Nancy Lowe was born in 1708.1 She married John Greer, son of John Greer and Sarah Elliott.1,2,3 Nancy Lowe married Thomas DeMoss on 12 September 1798; Again, I am including this marriage for the sake of completeness and as a clue to follow in further research, but I doubt it's accuracy. "Marriages of Wilkes County, North Carolina (1788-1868)" compiled by Brent H. Holcomb includes a marriage bond issued Thomas Demoss on 11 Sep 1798, but to marry ANN GREER not Nancy GREER. While I suppose it is possible an 82 year old woman would have married, it is more likely that Thomas Demoss married a woman named Ann Greer as indicated on the marriage bond.4 Nancy Lowe died in 1804 at Wilkes County, North Carolina, United States.1,4
Her married name was DeMoss.4 As of 1708, Nancy Lowe was also known as Jancy Lowe "Jancy" is likely to have been a typographical error on this application, but I am including it for the sake of completeness.4 Her married name was Nancy Greer.1
